Career Opportunity – Executive Director position
DREF is seeking applicants for the Foundation’s Executive Director position.
The successful candidate must be a Financial Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and remain in good standing throughout her employment.
The Executive Director is the organization’s Administrative Officer and is responsible for leading and managing strategy execution, administration, operations and programs of the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF). The Executive Director works with the Board of Directors to fulfill DREF’s mission and manages the daily operations of business and administrative functions, which include program development and execution, financial performance management, customer and partner relationships, technology and legal affairs. Additionally, the Executive Director provides supportive leadership to the Board President, Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
The successful Executive Director candidate will:
- Direct the daily operations of the Delta Research & Educational Foundation; coordinate and integrate the organization’s services and programs with a focus on programmatic excellence, fiscal stability, innovation and growth.
- Provide people-focused leadership to optimize the recruitment, retention and engagement of a diverse and talented workforce
- Be accountable for budgeting, accounting, cash, and cost management, and maintenance of financials.
- Maintain policies and procedures and organizational culture that ensure compliance with applicable regulations for all programs.
- Build strong partnerships with the Delta Research and Educational Foundation Board and foster meaningfulBoard engagement.
- Lead ongoing public relations, fundraising, and marketing activities.
- Collaborate with the Delta Research and Educational Board to develop and implement strategic plans.

- Create a culture that fosters staff engagement, learning and development, mentoring and accountability to achieve organizational results.
- Build strong partnerships with the Delta Research and Educational Foundation Board and cultivate meaningful opportunities to enhance Board relationships, education, and engagement.
Performance Excellence
- Ensure financial strength and profitability; develop and monitor annual budgets.
- Create policies, processes, and performance improvement strategies and an organizational culture that optimizes clinical care and patient and family engagement. Encourage continuous quality improvementefforts.
- Monitor workforce, operational and quality dashboards; assess opportunities to optimizeoperational processes and efficiencies.
- Foster a culture of accountability with a strong focus on customer service excellence.
- Assess Delta Research and Educational Foundation’s current organizational structure; determine keyroles, functions, and responsibilities that will position the organization for future success.
Strategy, Vision, and Growth
- In collaboration with the Delta Research and Educational Foundation Board of Directors, develop strategies and partnerships that ensure alignment with the organization’s mission.
- Key strategies will address opportunities for program expansion and innovation, strengthening finances to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization, and building cultural competence within the organization to improve customer service and staff engagement and satisfaction.
- Delta Research and Educational Foundation’s presence and visibility amongst strategic partnerships. Optimize opportunities to build market presence and brand.
Candidate Qualifications
Education/Certification
- An advanced degree in public administration, Business Administration, or another field directly related to the duties of this position.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of senior management experience with increasing levels of responsibility and management of staff, preferably within a nonprofit, government, or membership organization.
Knowledge and Work Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Delta Research and Educational Foundation’s policies, programmanagement and the Foundation’s history.
- Verifiable experience in developing, implementing, and managing programs and projects “on time and within budget”.
- Ability to travel extensively, including but not limited to out-of-town meetings, Delta regional conferences, Delta national conventions, and other Foundation events;
- A proven change agent who understands systems and process engineering, data analytics, and methodologies such as LEAN is desired.
