Donor Accountant Position

The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization established by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST) in 1967.

The Donor Accountant is responsible for maintaining the non-online donations. This includes wide range of accounting functions, including day-to-day transactions and assisting with the month-end and year-end closing processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient with accounting software, and committed to ensuring compliance with financial regulations and GAAP.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide monthly reports for donations from lockbox, mail and other non-online sources of donations to the Finance Team and Senior Management.
  • Ensure the timely deposit of all non-online donations in the appropriate bank accounts
  • Responsible for providing weekly to the Finance Team the merchant reports from GiveSmart
  • Confirm that deposits are reflected accurately in the respective bank accounts.
  • Responsible for providing monthly chapter reports for non-online donations to the Chapter Engagement Team
  • Provide within 30 days, thank you notes to all donors with donations in excess of $25.00
  • Maintain a database with demographics of donors, including emails, mailing addresses and annual donations
  • Research all unknown deposits to determine the appropriate source and account
  • Enter details of donations into the donation system
  • Responsible for providing quarterly reports of online DREF para sales
  • Responsible for preparing reports for all sales at conventions and conferences within 30 days of the event closure.
  • Assist with internal and external audits and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Perform other related projects and duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A bachelor’s degree is required with at least three years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Requires attention to detail, proficiency in technology (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Zoom, social media), and strong administrative skills.
  • Familiarity with non-profit management is a plus.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.

This is a Hybrid position. Must reside in Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia (DMV) Must be able to work in office and remotely.
