DREF Receives Award from the New Orleans Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, Delta Research and Educational Foundation was honored for its work as a community partner in the area of International Awareness & Involvement during the Founders Day Gala hosted by New Orleans Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Legacy of Sisterhood: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future was a black-tie event attended by more than 400 community leaders, organizations and members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The award was accepted by DREF Executive Director Karla Miles Green. DREF Director of Programs. Dr. Antoinette M. Rogers also attended the event. DREF was nominated for the honor by Carolyn E. Lewis, former DREF Board President and member of the Sister Scholars Advisory Council. Dr. Shelita Cannon-Hoey served as the gala chair. Belencia D. Breaux is the chapter president of New Orleans Alumnae.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. The Founders of Delta Sigma Theta envisioned an organization committed to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and addressing the social issues of the time.

Since its founding, Delta Sigma Theta has become one of the preeminent service-based sororities, with more than 300,000 initiated members and over 1,000 chartered chapters worldwide.
