In recognition of the 70th Anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka Supreme Court decision, Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) commissioned Atlanta-based physician and artist, Dr. Kathi Earles Ross, to create a commemorative print entitled Possibilities.
Dr. Earles Ross was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in 1985, through Alpha Chapter at Howard University. She is currently a member of the East Point College Park Alumnae Chapter.
The mixed media piece takes its name from the DREF tagline, Creating Possibilities, Improving Lives. It depicts the legacy of Brown v. Board of Education, utilizing historical imagery and a variety of materials to capture the struggle and hope for a more equitable future. The vintage classroom is displayed with a patchwork of newspaper clippings, photographs and legal documents that assist In telling the story, The monochromatic backdrop is contrasted with an array of colors and materials used to depict the presence of hope seen through the new students’ eyes.
