Stephanie Tubbs Jones
Summer Internship Program
Summer Internship Program
DREF collaboratively sponsors a summer internship program with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. In 2025, we are pleased to announce that our Stephanie Tubbs Jones Intern will again experience working in congressional offices in our nation’s capital for a traditional eight-week period.
The Stephanie Tubbs Jones (STJ) Summer Internship Program for women of color is a collaboration between the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) Internship Program.
The Delta Research and Educational Foundation established the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Institute for Social Justice in 2008 under its Center for Research on African American Women to perpetuate the extraordinary life, leadership, and legacy of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. member Congresswoman Tubbs Jones.
Established in 1986, the CBCF Congressional Internship Program answered the call to help diversify our democracy by increasing the pool of talented public servants. This intensive nine-week summer program offers the opportunity for college students from across the nation to learn about the legislative process, leadership, and careers in policymaking. Interns work in CBC member offices, attend professional development events, and participate in leadership development projects. The program prepares young people to become informed decision-makers and influential leaders who shape our world.
The Stephanie Tubbs Jones Intern will also attend select programs and events sponsored by DREF in addition to full participation in the CBCF Congressional Internship Program.

2025 STJ Summer Intern Omaima Lado, Poltical Science major and Human Right & Humanitarian Affairs and Arabic minor, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Omicron Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
“I am honored to share my experience as a Summer 2025 Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) and Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Stephanie Tubbs Jones Intern in the Office of Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D–Ohio), a distinguished member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. As a Political Science major with minors in Human Rights & Humanitarian Affairs and Arabic, this internship enabled me to apply my academic studies to meaningful work in public policy and community engagement.
In this role, I supported legislative initiatives through policy research, constituent correspondence, and community outreach. I attended congressional briefings and participated in weekly professional development sessions hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, each of which broadened my understanding of the legislative process and sharpened my commitment to effective public service.
Serving during the 119th Congressional Session provided a unique opportunity to witness policymaking firsthand, reinforcing my dedication to the mission of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and its emphasis on Social Action. This experience has also strengthened commitment to the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF), whose mission to advance scholastic achievement, public service programs, and research initiatives focused upon African American women
I am profoundly grateful for the mentorship and knowledge gained throughout this experience. As I continue to pursue my studies and career in public policy, I remain committed to advocacy, public service, and contributing to a more just and equitable society for all.”
