Reflections from the 2023 Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Intern

As DREF prepares to accept applications for the 2024 Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Internship, learn about Olandunni M. Oni’s recent experience.

She writes: I am thrilled to share my incredible journey and experience as the 2023 DREF and Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Stephanie Tubbs Jones Intern with the Office of the Representative Stacey Plaskett (D- U.S. Virgin Islands), also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Every moment of this experience was nothing short of inspiring and transformative. From the very first day, I was welcomed into a space of passion, purpose, and dedication to making a difference. The opportunity to contribute to the impactful work carried out by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation has been an honor beyond words.

During my Stephanie Tubbs Jones Internship, I had the privilege of participating in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority 56th National Convention, engaging at the DREF booth, and joining insightful plenary sessions and workshops. It has also been an honor to be recognized as Collegiate Soror of the Year, both regionally and nationally, by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. This accolade acknowledges commitment to the chapter, community, and core values.

While working in Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett’s office, I collaborated on legislative tasks, answered constituent calls, and contributed to digital projects.  I’ve stepped into spaces of which I once dreamed. As I step forward, I hold on to lessons, connections, and an unwavering dedication to bring about positive change.
