DREF Announces the National Reading Circle book discussion sponsored by DREF Sister Scholars. The 2023 National Reading Circle book selection is: Bertha Maxwell-Roddey: A Modern-Day Race Woman and the Power of Black Leadership by Dr. Sonya Ramsey.

Bertha Maxwell-Roddey: A Modern-Day Race Woman and the Power of Black Leadership
Dr. Maxwell-Roddey, a beloved leader in her community and the Sorority, has held a variety of positions, on all levels, most notably 20th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. The DREF Sister Scholars’ National Reading Circle invites individuals from throughout the nation to join the Circle by reading the biography.
The book discussion will take place virtually on Zoom and will be moderated by the author, Dr. Sonya Ramsey, a member of the DREF Sister Scholars. The event will be held at 3pm EST on Saturday, June 10th, which will be Dr. Maxwell-Roddey’s 93rd birthday. Special tributes are planned.
The event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required.

About the Author:
Dr. Sonya Ramsey, is an associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she is also the director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. A Delta member, she has also written several historical works, including Reading, Writing, and Segregation: A Century of Black Women. She is a native of Nashville, TN and is a graduate of Howard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
